Keeping data when switching from Hosted to In-House version

Q. If I change from using EP on your server, either hosted or a trial, can I keep my data if I switch to using EP In-House?

A. Yes, certainly.

Send an email to support@easyprojects.net, to request your hosted or trial database be sent to you, be sure to include 2 things:
1. the url you your trial ie www.oureasyprojects.net/????.
2. the version of sql server you are using.  Currently your hosted version will be in the 2008 R2 format.  If you have sql express 2005/2008 or sql 2008 full version it's best to upgrade to sql 2008 R2 (express or full). If upgrading is difficult because you have sql 2005 full version, then we will have to do a downgrade of your EP database to 2005 and this can usually be done within 48 hours or sooner, depending on how early you submit your request.

Then, go to http://www.easyprojects.net/downloads to get the lastest version of the EP installer.

To connect up your trial database and the EP program files, follow the info, below:

1. go to the link sent to you to download and unzip your db from our server
2. Restore the database .bak file using sql mgr (right click on the sql server symbol and choose restore or tasks then restore)
3. In the restore screen, you should go to the options page and look at the restore path where your files will be placed.  By default, sql will choose a restore path equal to where the files were backed up from - most likely this path will not exist on your server, so change the path for both the mdf and ldf files.
4. launch the ep installer and choose upgrade mode.
5. when you get to the page where you put in info about your database, make sure you choose the name of the db you just restored.
6. you will have received a license file via email from the sales dept, so save the license file to the ep root folder ie where you specified  the ep files to go, during the install, and overwrite any existing license file of the same name, if prompted.
