Can a Custom Field retain its value when the Activity Type changes?

We have users who submit jobs in the form of a request, I also have Custom Fields to capture extra information. Once the request is submitted and then I change the Activity Type from a Request to a Task, the Custom Field information is lost... Is it possible this information be brought through when the Activity Type is changed?

I originally set the custom fields only for Requests and Tasks, not for "All activities…" 
I thought if the same custom fields were present in the same Activity Type, the data would pass through - however this is not the case. As soon as I added the custom fields to the "All activities" option, the data is passed between Activity Type.
My problem solved. Perhaps this might be an idea for future releases?
