Adding activities

Activity Center > Activities

Adding activities in Activity Center is similar to that of projects. The main point of entry is the top text box.

 

To add an activity:

 

1.

Type the name of the activity in the creation bar.

2.

To quickly specify the end date for the activity, type 'by' and then the date or a word/phrase referring to a date, e.g. 'today', 'next Friday', etc.

3.

Use type selector to select type of activity: Task, Issue or Request.

4.

Select the project the activity will be part of.

5.

Type '@' followed by the name of the user to be assignee on the activity, or use the assignee selection button to quickly assign available users to the task.

6.

Select start date for the activity using the date selector.

7.

Hit Enter, or click 'Create'.

8.

With the activity added to the list, you can supply any extra details on the activity details page (to access it simply use the activity details button (). Also see steps 3 through 4 here.

9.

Alternatively, use the attribute buttons to add details to the activity. Use the example below:

 

 

Example:

1. Suppose you want to change budget of the activity.

Click the Customize button () and click the 'strong box' button () under Activity. Edit the budget and click 'Save' when you are done.

 

2. To add estimated hours:

Click the Customize button () and click the actual & estimated hours

button () under Activity. Type in the required amount for estimated hours, and click 'Save'.

 

3. To add a description to the activity:

Position the mouse pointer over the name of the activity until three buttons pop up to the right of it. Click the description button (). While typing a description for the activity, you may use some editing tools, such as font change, font color, indenting, justification, etc., including hyperlinks.

Click 'Save' when you are finished.

 

 

Alternative methods of adding an activity:

 

Ctrl + Enter

You must have 'Add task' permission in your role for this method to work.

You must have hierarchical view turned on for this method to work.

 

To quickly add an untitled activity to a project:

 

1.

Make sure the cursor is inside the Create box.

2.

Select the project you want to add a task to.

3.

Press Ctrl + Enter.

4.

As a result, an Untitled task will be added to the project.

 

Once the activity has been created you can modify its details as required on its Task Details page or via controls available in the Activity Center  (see Example above).

 

Add Task ('+') button

You must have 'Add task' permission in your role for this method to work. If you have 'Add issue' and/or 'Add request' instead, the 'plus sign' will not be visible.

 

You can also add an activity to a project or a sub-activity to an activity, etc.:

 

1.

Move the mouse pointer left and right on the LEFT of the thick vertical border line at the name of the activity below which you wish to add an activity until a green '+' button appears.

2.

There are one or two positions of the '+' button: immediately left of the name of the activity (1 - see illustration below), and the other one (2), if the activity is a sub-activity – at the level of the top level activity.

3.

Clicking  the former will add an activity of the same level, clicking the latter – a top level activity.

 

 

 

 

Add Sub-task ('+') button

 

You can quickly add a sub-activity to an activity:

 

1.

Place the mouse pointer on a gray '+' button left of the name of the activity. Click as it turn green.

2.

Type the name of the sub-activity, and press Enter.

 

 

 

 

Once an activity has been created you can modify its details as required on its Task Details page or via controls available in the Activity Center (see Example above).
